Why Letters From Santa?

I enjoy writing letters all year round, but I decided to start Merry Mailbox off with letters from Santa. Why? Let me share a little story with you.

I must have been around nine or ten years old when I discovered Santa's mailing address somewhere. I had no idea he actually had an address that you could mail letters to, and I excitedly rattled the address off to my mother by memory. Now, I never planned on writing to the address, I just thought it was neat. My mother, on the other hand, had other intentions.

When a letter arrived for me a couple of weeks later, I eagerly looked to see who it was from. I was used to writing and receiving letters on a regular basis, but this one was different. This one was from Santa Claus! Tearing it open, I was amazed by how much he knew about me. He talked about my hobbies, my accomplishments, even my cat. "But how? How does he know?" I wondered in amazement. My mother, though she didn't have to, confided in me. She had seen how excited I was about Santa's mailing address and she had taken the time to write to it and tell him all about me.

Two things stay with me to this day - that simple, generous act that my mother took on my behalf, and the joy I got from receiving such a personalized letter from Santa Claus. That's why I decided to start off with letters from Santa. I want you to feel the same joy that I did that day when I tore open my letter. It was such a small gesture, but it created a memory that will be with me forever.
